Thurman lifts ENMU past Mustangs in double overtime

PORTALES, N.M. -- Eastern New Mexico's Danielle Thurman tallied the game winning goal for the second time this season against Midwestern State to help the Zias to a 2-1 double overtime win Friday night at the ENMU Soccer Field.

MSU has now played in four consecutive double overtime contests while falling to 2-7-3 on the season and to 2-3-3 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Mustangs close the weekend Sunday against league leading West Texas A&M at The Pitch in Canyon. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.

Freshman forward Ashley Cottrell ripped a shot form the right wing for the equalizer in the 76th minute to knot the match at 1-1. It would be the Mustangs' sixth overtime contest of the season.

Eastern New Mexico's Victoria Perez tallied her fourth goal of the season when her shot from 45 yards out bounded over MSU goalkeeper Mallory Whitworth's head to give the Zias a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.

Thurman then ended the contest by tapping in her fifth goal of the campaign after corralling a header in the box off of a free kick in the game's 106th minute.

Midwestern State controlled a 14-11 edge in shots including an 11-3 advantage in the second half.
