WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The Midwestern State volleyball team hosts its annual Dig for the Cure match Saturday when it plays host to Tarleton State at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First service is set for 2 p.m.

In conjunction with simply raising awareness, the team is having a raffle to raise funds to support research to rid the world of breast cancer.

Raffle tickets are available for $2 each with all proceeds going to support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Gifts for the raffle have been donated by KellyKate Photography, JoS A. Bank Clothiers, Back Basix, Maryland's Beauty Salon, Spa on the Plaza and Jason's Deli.

The raffle will be held during the second and third sets of MSU's match against the TexAnns.

Tickets may be purchased from any MSU volleyball player or coach and will be available prior to the drawing on Saturday.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the boldest community fueling the best science and making the biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer.

To date, the foundation has invested almost $2 billion in research and life-saving community programs. A Komen grant has touched every major breast cancer breakthrough of the past 29 years. Those investments have helped drive down breast cancer mortality rates by 33 percent since 1991. Komen is the only breast cancer organization attacking defense on all fronts: in research, community outreach, education, advocacy and global work.

The Mustangs tip off a busy three-day Homecoming stretch against No. 11 Angelo State Friday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 4 p.m.

The match will be followed by a doubleheader at the MSU Soccer Field. The men take on NAIA Houston-Victoria at 6:30 p.m. followed by the women against Incarnate Word at 8:30.

Angelo State (16-3, 9-1) rides a three-match winning streak into Friday's Lone Star Conference contest at Midwestern State and has won 11 of its last 12. The balanced Belles rank seventh in NCAA Division II with 14.45 kills per set but rate fourth in the nation with 19.79 digs per set. Junior transfer (Alabama) Shelbi Goode paces the ASU attack ranking amongst national leaders at 3.94 kills per while junior outside hitter Kaelen Valdez (2.45 k/s), junior middle blocker Maddie Huth (2.56 k/s, .330 atk pct) and senior outside hitter Chelsea Gibson (2.22 k/s) all average more than two kills per set. Senior setter Alex Woolsey ranks sixth in NCAA Division II with 11.87 assists per set. Sophomore libero Shelby Witt paces the back row with 4.91 digs per set while Huth is tough at the net with 1.00 blocks per set.

Tarleton State (13-5, 8-2) bounced back from a five-set loss to Angelo State with victories over Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's University at home last week. The TexAnns have now won 11 of their last 13 matches with their only losses coming to the Rambelles. Tarleton's strength resides at the net where 5-9 senior middle blocker Nikki McNorton ranks third in the nation at 1.56 blocks and with the aid of freshman middle blocker Meg Umbel (0.65 b/s) and junior outside hitter Stacie Murrah (0.63 b/s), the TexAnns rate 17th nationally with 2.44 team blocks per set. McNorton also paces the attack with 2.77 kills per set with a .347 kill rate. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Covell adds 2.68 kills pet set while Murrah pitches in with 2.32. Junior setter Danielle Barker quarterbacks a team attack (.188) with 8.21 set assists per stanza. Junior libero Emily Klein leads back row efforts with 4.34 digs per set.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State (4-15, 2-7) looks to snap out of a three-game skid with a pair of home tough home matches against No. 11 Angelo State and Tarleton State.  The Mustangs will play a nationally ranked squad for the third time this season taking losses against No. 12 Wayne State (Neb.) (3-0) and the then-13th ranked Rambelles (3-0) last month on the road. Senior outside hitter Shelbi Stewart continues to lead the attack with 2.73 kills per set while posting a .216 kill rate. Junior middle blocker Caitlin Wallace, who has notched double-figure kills in three of her last four outings, puts down 2.53 kills per set with a team-best .269 attack percentage. Sophomore middle blocker Kasey Decker has come on to average 2.11 kills per set over MSU's last five matches and has at least seven kills in each of her last four outings. Sophomore Kristan Aduddell (6.05 assists per set) and junior Courtney Haney (4.98 assists per set) power the Mustangs 6-2 system while junior middle blocker Michelle Blount leads the effort at the net with 0.56 blocks per set. • Junior middle blocker Caitlin Wallace enjoyed a stellar week putting down 3.07 kills per set while posting a team-best .288 attack percentage.
• Wallace posted double-figure kills in three of her four outings last week including a season-high 16 kills (.308) Friday against Texas-Permian Basin.
• Wallace has produced eight matches with 10-or-more kills.
• Wallace ranks 10th in the Lone Star Conference with a .269 attack percentage.
• Senior outside hitter Shelbi Stewart knocked down eight kills without an error Friday against Texas-Permian Basin before ripping 12 kills with two errors Saturday at Dallas Baptist.
