GAME DAY: Mustangs seek fifth straight win as Pioneers visit Ligon

Midwestern State continues its homestand by returning to Lone Star Conference play against the Texas Woman's Pioneers on Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

MSU is 8-3 overall, 4-1 in LSC action after their 61-60 triumph win over Central Oklahoma on Wednesday in non-conference play.  Texas Woman's is 8-5 overall, 3-4 in the LSC after falling to Cameron 62-57 at home on Wednesday.

Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State is riding its first four-game winning streak in eight years after the 61-60 win over Central Oklahoma.  It also marks winning seven of the last eight games, something the best eight-game stretch since an 8-0 run during the 2003-04 season.

MSU boasts four double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver.

The Amarillo native ranks amongst LSC leaders with 14.5 points per game while connected on 1.6 3-pointers a contest.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia scores 10.9 points a contest, while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor and adds 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

Jones has been the Mustangs' spark plug, connecting on a 1.2 treys an outing and leads the Lone Star Conference in 3-point percentage by nailing 47.8 percent (11-23). The Waco Midway High product pitches in 2.0 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.

Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 10.4 points and 5.5 rebounds , while frosh guard Shatoia Gober adds 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds a contest.

MSU leads the Lone Star Conference averaging 76.3 points and 42.6 rebounds a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 66.5 points a contest.

ABOUT THE PIONEERS

Texas Woman's stands 8-5 overal, 3-4 in the LSC and has lost their last two games to now top-ranked and 9-0 Arkansas Tech 75-60 and to 9-2 Cameron 62-57.

The Pioneers are paced by senior Jessica Hanna who leads the team with 15.8 points and 8.0 rebounds an outing.

Junior Brittney Nuzum contributes 13.8 points with 2.6 treys a game while shooting 39.5 percent from the 3-point arc.

Freshman center Tiara Davis collects 10.4 points and 6.3 boards as she shoot 50.7 percent from the floor.

Sophomore Tabbatha Thurmond ads 9.8 points and pulls down 5.8 boards an outing as well.

The Pioneers are averaging 67.3 points a game, while allowing just 62.1 a contest.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and Central Oklahoma meet for the 48th time on Saturday at Ligon Coliseum.

Midwestern holds a 29-18 lead in the series and sports a 12-8 advantange in games at Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs have won the last two meetings against the Pioneers, including last season's 67-62 win at Ligon Coliseum on Dec. 18, 2010.

The last TWU win over MSU was in Ligon Coliseum on Dec. 20, 2008, when the Pioneers edged the Mustangs 63-60.
