Mustangs face Bronchos to end 16-day holiday break

Midwestern State returns to play after a 16-day holiday break on Wednesday night when the Mustangs host Central Oklahoma in a non-conference contest.

MSU is 7-3 overall, 4-1 in LSC action after their 64-57 triumph over Abilene Christian on Dec. 19.  Central Oklahoma is 10-5 overall after beating Incarnate Word 78-66 last Saturday.

Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State has won six games in the last seven outings after the 64-57 win over Abilene Christian in MSU's last game before the 16-day holiday break.  MSU looks to continue what it started in 2011 by extending their winning streak to four and posting its best eight-game stretch since is an eight-game win streak in the 2003-04 season.

MSU boasts four double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver.

The Amarillo native ranks amongst LSC leaders with 15.1 points per game while connected on 1.6 3-pointers a contest.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia and freshman guard Dianna Jones are both averaging 11.0 points a contest.

Jones is the Mustangs' spark plug, connecting on a 1.4 treys an outing and leads the Lone Star Conference in 3-point percentage by nailing 50.0 percent (11-22). The Waco Midway High product pitches in 2.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia adds 2.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds a game while shooting .463 from the floor.

Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 10.6 points and 5.8 rebounds , while frosh guard Shatoia Gober adds 9.4 points and 4.7 rebounds a contest.

ABOUT THE BRONCHOS

Central Oklahoma is 7-3 overall after beating Incarnate Word 78-66.  The former LSC member is an independent this season and will join the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association next season.

UCO won its first five games of the season and has alternated losses and wins over the next 10 games.  The Bronchos have been hit by the injury bug hard this year, with five players felled for the season already.

The Bronchos are led by sophomore guard Britney Morgan who leads the team with 10.9 points and 3.7 assists per game.  She also shoots 40.6 percent from the 3-point arc (26-64), connecting on 1.7 treys a contest.

Junior forward Courtney Harper averages 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds an outing to go with their 10 blocks.

Senior guard Heather Davis and sophomore guard Jill Bryan each add 10.1 points a game, both shooting well from 3-point land.  Bryan leads the team with 1.9 treys a contest and leads the squad by hitting 45.2 percent (28-62) from the arc.  Davis connects on 1.7 threes and is shooting 35.6 percent (26-73) from the 3-point line.

UCO is 1-0 against the LSC this season (UIW) and is 2-1 against other former members of the LSC.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and Central Oklahoma meet for the 36th time on Wednesday at Ligon Coliseum.

The Bronchos own an 18-17 edge in the series, however MSU sports a 10-5 advantange in the series at Ligon Coliseum.

The Bronchos have won the last four meetings against Midwestern, including a 74-67 win in Edmond on Jan. 8, 2011.

The last MSU win over UCO was on Jan. 14, 2006, when the Mustangs beat the Bronchos 61-54 at Ligon Coliseum.
