GAME DAY: Mustangs look for 10th consecutive win as Lions visit Ligon

Midwestern State returns home to D.L. Ligon Coliseum with a nine-game winning streak after sweeping the Red River Rivalry over Cameron and are out to collect 10 straight wins for the third time in school history.

MSU is 13-3 overall, 9-1 in LSC action after the 65-58 win over Cameron on Saturday.  Texas A&M-Commerce fell to 1-15 overall, 0-10 in the LSC with a 91-61 loss at Tarleton State.

Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. on Gerald Stockton Court.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State is riding an nine-game winning streak, the third-longest on record for the MSU women after the 65-58 triumph at Cameron on Saturday.  The Mustangs also have won 12 of the last 13 games for the first time since the 2003-04 season and matching a streak from the 1989-90 season.

MSU boasts three double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver, this week's LSC Offensive Player of the Week.

The Amarillo native ranks amongst LSC leaders with 15.2 points per game while connecting on 1.6 3-pointers a contest.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia scores 10.2 points a contest, while shooting 43.7 percent from the floor and adds 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Freshman Dianna Jones tallies 10.0 points a game for the Mustangs.  She is connecting on a 1.1 treys an outing and leads the Lone Star Conference in 3-point percentage by nailing 48.5 percent (16-33). The Waco Midway High product pitches in 2.0 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 8.5 points and 5.7 rebounds.

Senior forward Jazman Patterson, the current LSC Defensive Player of the Week, leads the team with 6.3 rebounds a game to go with her 6.4 points and 40.0 percent shooting from the floor.

MSU leads the Lone Star Conference averaging 73.9 points and is second in rebounding with 42.6 a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 65.1 points a contest.

ABOUT THE LIONS

Texas A&M-Commerce is 1-15 overall, 0-10 in Lone Star Conference play and has lost 12 straight games that began with MSU's 81-44 trouncing on Nov. 30, 2011.

The Lions are paced by sophomore Danielle Dixon who averages 12.8 points a contest, while adding 3.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists an outing.

Breana Harris collects 11.5 points a game.  The 5-11 sophomore leads the LSC in rebounding with 9.1 boards a contest and while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor.

No other Lion player averages six points or better a game.

The Lions are averaging 57.8 points a game, while allowing the opposition 78.7 a contest.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State faces Texas A&M-Commerce for the 53rd time on the hardwood Wednesday when they meet at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

MSU holds a 35-17 lead in the series against the Lions that started in the 1976-77 season. Midwestern holds an 18-5 lead in the series at Ligon Coliseum, as well as a 13-11 mark at the A&M-Commerce Field House. MSU has a 1-0 record in a neutral site (Denton). The Mustangs have a 17-10 series lead since joining the LSC in the 1996-97 season.

The Mustangs have won three straight against A&M-C after dropping four in a row to the Lions.

MSU won the last meeting on Nov. 30, 2011 in Commerce 81-44, MSU's largest LSC win and the largest in the series.

A&M-C last won in Wichita Falls on Dec. 17, 2008 with a 79-72 victory.
