Mustangs snap Cameron's 10-game win streak, 46-41

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State has lived life in the fast lane while constructing its best start since the 2002-03 season.

The Mustangs proved they could win a slugfest Wednesday night taking a hard-fought 46-41 victory over Cameron in a key Lone Star Conference contest.

MSU extended its winning streak to eight games while moving to 12-3 on the season and to 8-1 in league while snapping the Aggies' 10-game winning streak. Cameron flipped to 12-3 on the season and to 8-2 in the LSC.

The teams wind up Rivalry Week Saturday afternoon at Aggie Gym in Lawton. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

Despite facing a huge size mismatch against CU 6-1 forward duo of Sabelle Diata (10 points, 15 rebounds, 7 blocks) and Julie Paunovic (10 points, 12 rebounds), the Mustangs were able to dominate the glass by a 54-37 margin.

Freshman guard Shatoia Gober led the way with 10 rebounds with senior forward Cierra Thompson and senior guard Savannah Carver contributing to the cause with nine and six boards each.

The Mustangs took control of the contest with a 16-0 run to close out the opening half.

Cameron was 0-for-10 during the drought which allow Midwestern to spin a 17-12 deficit into a 28-17 halftime lead.

The Aggies would close to within a single point on two occasions in the second half, but MSU would never trail again.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia paced the Mustangs' attack with 11 points and six rebounds while Carver pitched in seven points and seven rebounds.
