No. 5 Midwestern State rolls to 8-2 win over 12th ranked West Texas A&M in game two of NCAA Super Regional

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The fifth-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs forced a third game in the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional with an 8-2 victory over 12th ranked West Texas A&M Saturday at Mustangs Park.

The Mustangs (51-12) collected 17 hits against the Lady Buffs (50-17), all of them against starter Marci Womack (26-9).

After stranding three runners over the last two innings, the Mustangs got on the scoreboard in the third inning on a Mallory Mooney's 14th home run of the season that drove in Nikki Duff.

After plating a run in the fifth on an Amanda Potysman RBI single, the Mustangs broke the game open in the sixth.

MSU loaded the bases for Kim Jerrick who singled to drive in one run. Alyson Reynolds followed with a two RBI double to center and Potysman added a sacrifice fly for a four run inning.

The Mustangs added one more in the seventh when McKenzie Sickler doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on Mooney's RBI single.

MSU pitcher Kristina Gutierrez (22-4) was nearly perfect entering the seventh inning, but lost the shutout on a two-run home run by Meghan Slattery, her 14th of the season.

Gutierrez finished the game by striking out six and walking two, while allowing the two runs on four hits.
