WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 31st-ranked Midwestern State men did not lose a point in beating St. Mary's 9-0 on Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (11-3) controlled every court as they dropped St. Mary's (4-9).
"It was the most complete match we've played so far," said MSU Coach
Scott Linn. "We did a few things differently, switched up the doubles and they handled it well."
The region's sixth ranked double's squad of
Vjekoslav Stipanic and
Luke Joyce started it off with an 8-5 win over Marcin Marczewski and Guy Rutten at No. 1.
Chad Meeks and
Jarrod Liston added an identical 8-5 win at No. 2 against Jake Williams and Andrej Klipa, while
Mario Urban and
Rory de Boer shut out Nestor and Nicolas Moreno 8-0 at No. 3.
With the Rattlers' Marczewski and Klipa defaulting due to injury at Nos. 1 & 2 singles, the Mustangs clinched the match.
Still, MSU saw Liston rip Carlos Olea 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6, and
Bo Zaputovic take down Nestor Moreno 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4.
Luke Joyce handled Rutten 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, while de Boer needed the 10-point tie breaker to sweep the match over Williams 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.
The Mustangs close the home portion of their season against Incarnate Word next Thursday. First serve is set for noon on senior day.
