PLANO, Texas -- The Midwestern State men's and women's tennis teams opened the season Friday with a pair of matches each at the 22nd Collin County Open.
The MSU men collected a pair of victories, downing Arkansas-Fort Smith 8-1 in the season opener and ripping the home team Collin County CC 8-1 in the afternoon match.
The MSU women took their season opener over Arkansas-Fort Smith 5-4 before falling to Lee College 8-1 in the second match of the day.
"I though we played okay for a season opener," said MSU first-year head coach
Scott Linn. "The men were solid on doubles. The women proved how tough the team really is."
The men were solid throughout the lineup, with junior
Octavian Dinuta streaking through his two singles matches without dropping a game.
The MSU women struggled throughout the day, playing one player down and defaulting the number six singles and number three doubles in both matches.
"The women did a good job in implementing the game plan," Linn noted. "They did what was needed to be successful."
The Mustangs open Lone Star Conference play on Saturday by traveling to Durant, Okla., to meet Southeastern Oklahoma State in men's and women's play.
