WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State continued its march toward a Lone Star Conference Championship by claiming its third -straight win taking a 63-52 decision over Texas A&M-Kingsville Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs improved to 9-13 on the season and to 5-5 in LSC South play, but remain 1 1/2 games out of the final postseason berth behind a trio of teams - Angelo State, West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian - at 7-4.
Junior forward
Nolisha Markham led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 15 points and seven rebounds as the Mustangs took control of the game with a 13-3 run late in the first half after trailing the Javelinas by as many as nine points in the opening frame.
Senior guard
Katiya Jackson completed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to join junior forward
Savannah Carver and
Cierra Thompson with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Mustangs never trailed in the second half and pushed the lead to 14 on a pair of Markham free throws with 1:39 to play.
Texas A&M-Kingsville was paced by Meagan Barlow, who scored 15 points while Ashley Perez added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Freshman forward
Skyler Warrick added two points to go along with a season-high seven rebounds and two steals in 13 minutes.
Midwestern State takes on West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon at First United Bank Center in Canyon. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
