ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State aims to move to 9-0 for the fourth time in school history and for the first time since opening the 2009-10 campaign with 14 consecutive wins.

The Mustangs trailed in the second half for the first time in road wins over Angelo State and Incarnate Word last week.

Junior JaMichael Rivers poured in 30 points including 21 in the second half and hit a back-to-back 3-pointers to key a 10-2 run late in the contest as the Mustangs overcame a 12-point deficit with 8 minutes to play to win 65-61 over Angelo State Monday night at Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

The Mustangs then put the clamps on Incarnate Word in the second half after the Cardinals led 30-27 at intermission.

Rivers leads Midwestern in scoring at 12.6 points per game and is joined by senior backcourt mate Michael Loyd at 12.5 points a contest as the Mustangs' only players averaging in double figures.

But they are just two of eight players tallying at least five points a game this season.

Senior forward David Terrell has scored in double figures in each of the last three games off of the bench and is scoring 8.7 points and snaring 7.1 rebounds in 16.1 minutes per game.

The Mustangs can improve to 4-0 in conference play for the first time since 1999-00.

ABOUT THE JAVELINAS

Texas A&M-Kingsville (6-5, 1-2) has lost three of its last four games after running off wins in five of six games from Nov. 12-22.

But three of the Hoggies' five losses have been by four points or less as TAMUK fell 75-71 to Texas-Permian Basin in its season opener before battling St. Mary's (Texas) to within 77-76 on Nov. 28 and No. 12 Tarleton State to 72-70 the last time out on Dec. 7.

Junior guard Ashton Brown has been on a tear for the Javelinas.

The 5-10 transfer from Coastal Bend CC is averaging 24.8 points over his last five games including a pair of 32-points explosions against St. Edward's and St. Mary's.

Brown is averaging 16.5 points a game for the season connecting at a 39.2-percnet clip (20-for-51) from 3-point range and is 63-of-65 (96.9 percent) from the free throw line.

Senior forward Robert Williams has returned from a two-year layover to average 16.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per game. Williams helped the Hoggies to an NCAA Division II postseason appearance in 2008-09.

Junior guard Daryl Nash (9.1 points, 3.2 rebounds) and senior guard Marcus Ford (8.6 points, 4.5 rebounds) are other key performers for Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Hoggies are 1-2 away from Steinke Center this season.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State meets Texas A&M-Kingsville for the 35th time on the hardwood Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs own a commanding 23-11 edge in the series which dates back to the 1976-77 season and has won the last seven meetings between the programs.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's last win came by a 78-63 margin on Feb. 16, 2008 in South Texas to complete a season sweep of MSU which included the Hoggies' last victory at Ligon Coliseum - 82-72 on Jan. 19, 2008.

Midwestern is 11-5 all time against TAMUK in Wichita Falls.
