ABOUT THE LSC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The top six teams meet at the site of the regular season championship. The winner of the single elimination tournament receives the league automatic qualification into the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Quarterfinal round play commenced Thursday with West Texas A&M claiming a 1-0 win over Eastern New Mexico before Texas A&M-Commerce advanced on penalty kicks after battling Angelo State to a 1-1 draw.

In Friday's semifinal round, Midwestern State defeated West Texas A&M 2-1, while Abilene Christian eliminated Texas A&M-Commerce 2-0.

The Mustangs and Wildcats square off for the LSC championship for the second consecutive season Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

MSU IN THE LSC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Midwestern State is making its 16th appearance in the Lone Star Conference Championships. The Mustangs are the lone program conference to appear in each of the league's postseason tournaments.

MSU is 14-13-1 while winning championships in 1996 and 1998. The Mustangs have appeared in six league final contests claiming titles in 1996 and 1998.

THE MATCHUP
Â
Abilene Christian swept the two regular season contests between the teams.
ACU's Andrea Carpenter struck for the lone goal in a 1-0 win over the Mustangs on on Oct. 5 at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch.
The Wildcats then struck for two second half goals by Krysta Grimm and Megan Turner in a 2-1 win over Midwestern on Oct. 28. MSU freshman
Callie Briseno headed in a corner kick to snap the shutout bid in the 89th minute.
Midwestern State (12-5-2) has won seven of its last nine, while Abilene Christian (18-0-1) has won 14 straight since suffering its lone draw of the season on Sep. 16 against Incarnate Word.
