Mustangs rolls past Jarvis Christian, 86-54

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's Anthony Harris completed a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mustangs to an 86-54 win over Jarvis Christian Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Mustangs, who improved to 5-0 for the second time in the last three years, open Lone Star Conference play Wednesday night at Texas A&M-Commerce.
 
MSU took advantage of its size and athleticism to dominate the glass by a 55-33 margin fueling a 20-9 edge in the second chance points.
 
Freshman guard Derrell Gibbs and senior forward David Terrell also had 10 boards for the Mustangs while junior forward Jeff Grayer hustled for six points and nine boards.
 
The Mustangs slowly pulled away to lead by as many as 15 points in the opening half before dominating the second half.
 
MSU held the Bulldogs without field goal for a 10:18-stretch during a prolonged 23-2 run between field goals by Marcus O'Key at the 16:41 mark and a Carlton Dean jumper in the paint with 5:23 to play.
 
Junior guard DeJuan Plummer joined Harris as the lone MSU players in double figures finishing with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers while connecting on each of his seven charity tosses.
 
Dean paced Jarvis Christian with 13 points as Midwestern limited the Bulldogs to 32.1 percent shooting from the field.
 
NAIA Jarvis Christian fell to 1-1 on the season.
