GAME DAY: Mustangs, ACU to tangle for fourth time

Midwestern State is in search of its second postseason win and second postseason victory this season over Abilene Christian Sunday afternoon at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

ABOUT THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
 The 48-team NCAA Division II Championship field has been whittled to 31.
 
In Super Region Four, the Mustangs and Abilene Christian square off for the fourth time this season and for the second time in a week for the right to move on to the South Central Region finals next weekend against the winner of Central Oklahoma and Dallas Baptist, who face off in Edmond today at 2 p.m.
 
In the half of the Super Region Four bracket, Cal State-Los Angeles has already claimed a spot in the West Region Finals and will play the victor of the Cal State-San Diego/Chico State (Calif.) match also set for 2 p.m. today.
 
The region championships are set for Friday at a site and time to be determined. The winners move on to the national quarterfinals and will play for a berth in the NCAA Division II Final Four set for Dec. 1-3 in Pensacola, Fla.
 
MSU IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
 Midwestern State is making its second appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships and claimed its first postseason victory taking a 1-0 result Friday over St. Edward's (Texas).
 
The Mustangs fell 3-1 to Truman (Mo.) in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA II tournament in Warrensburg, Mo.
 
THE MATCHUP
 
 Midwestern State and Abilene Christian face off for th fourth time this season. A single goal has separated the teams in each battle.
 
The Mustangs rallied to net two scores in the final 15 minutes of regulation to claim the Lone Star Conference championship with a 2-1 result over ACU last Sunday at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch.
 
It was Abilene Christian's only loss of the season and snapped a 14-match winning streak dating back to a 1-1 draw against Incarnate Word on Sep. 16.
 
ACU claimed each of the wins against the Mustangs during the regular season taking a 1-0 result on Oct. 5 in Abilene and a 2-1 win on Oct. 25 at the MSU Soccer Field.
 
Midwestern State owns a 6-3 in the series which dates back to ACU's inaugural season of 2007.
