WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 18 Angelo State used a balanced attack to snap Midwestern State's six-game winning streak taking a 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22 Lone Star Conference win Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Maddie Huth and Debbie Ohl notched 10 kills each and three more players tallied at least eight kills for the Rambelles, who improved to 20-2 overall and to 9-1 in conference play.
But the Mustangs, who were playing without two starters causing a switch from the 6-2 to the 5-1 alignment, gave Angelo all it could handle.
Midwestern forced the Rambles into 27 attack errors and a .165 team attack percentage led by senior libero
Kiara Jordan's 30-dig effort.
The Mustangs scrambled to claim a 25-22 win in the third set keyed by senior
Hillary White who put down five of her team-high 12 kills in the set. The Richland Hills High product also pitched in 15 digs to complete her sixth double-double of the season.
The teams stood even at 18-18 in the fourth set before the Rambelles ran off four consecutive on the strength of Ohl's service and led 22-18 after Kaelen Valdez and Maddie Huth combined for a block of White.
The Mustangs rallied to pull within 23-22 on a
Miranda Byrd kill before Angelo closed the match out.
Byrd ended the match with 11 kills while sophomore
Brandi Flores notched a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Freshman setter
Kristan Aduddell tallied a season-high 44 assists as the Mustangs hit .159 as a team.
Midwestern State hits the road for a pair of LSC matches next week facing Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday and Texas Woman's University of Saturday.
