Setting the Stage

Midwestern State battles Eastern New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference South Division contest Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

About the Mustangs

Midwestern State dropped another close call Saturday night with an 80-77 setback against Abilene Christian.
 
Three of the losses in the Mustangs' current five-game skid are by five points or less and five of MSU's 10 loss this season have come by five or fewer points.
 
Midwestern has controlled the battle on the glass this season and has only been outrebounded in two of 14 games this season. The Mustangs average 14.6 second chance points and allow 9.1.
 
Senior forward Nolisha Markham has been on a tear during MSU's five-game losing streak. The Tulsa native has averaged a team-high 21 points and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 49.3 percent from the floor (34-for-69) including 61.5 percent from 3-point range (8-for-13). She is also getting to the charity strip with regularity hitting at a 29-for-38 clip (76.3 percent) during the stretch.
 
Senior guard Katiya Jackson has taken off since being inserted into the starting lineup seven games ago.
 
The Burkburnett High product has scored in double figures in five of the seven contests while posting solid all-around numbers of 13.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block per game as one of the premiere defenders in the Lone Star Conference.

About the Zias

Eastern New Mexico (3-11, 1-1) has lost six of its last seven games and has struggled mightily away from Greyhound Arena this season.
 
The Zias have posted just one win - a 59-44 win at Texas Woman's - in seven tries on the road this season and are coming off of a 66-51 loss Saturday night at West Texas A&M.
 
Junior Precious Herrin leads the ENMU attack with 15.5 points per game scoring average. The 5-10 forward pulls down 5.6 rebounds and protects the rim with 17 blocks in 13 games this season.
 
At 28.8 minutes per game, she is just one of three players averaging more than 20 minutes a contest this season for the Zias.
 
Junior guard Kara Tate (7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds) and senior forward Cat Clay (6.5 points, 5.0 rebounds) play 24.4 and 28.2 minutes per game respectively as 11 different players average more than 10 minutes a contest.
 
Eastern New Mexico scores 60.9 points per game and allows 69.6.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico meet for the 32nd time on the hardwood Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Zias own a slim 16-15 edge in the series which dates back to the 1985-86 season after sweeping the season series in 2009-10.
 
ENMU snapped a three-game losing streak to the Mustangs at D.L. Ligon Coliseum by overcoming a 10-point deficit with 6:01 to play last season on Feb. 13, 2010.
