Setting the Stage

Midwestern State faces Abilene Christian in its Lone Star Conference South Division home opener Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.

About the Mustangs

Senior forward Nolisha Markham poured in a career high 27 points in Wednesday night's 74-62 loss at Angelo State.

The loss was the fourth straight for the Mustangs who fell to 4-9 on the season and to 0-1 in the Lone Star Conference's South Division.

Markham has been on a solid run over the last four games averaging 21 points and nine rebounds while shooting 49.1 percent from the field.

The latest scoring binge has boosted Markham's numbers to a team-leading 13.0 points a game while she is grabbing 6.8 rebounds per contest.

Senior guard Katiya Jackson also delivered an all-around game with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and three steals in 27 minutes on the floor.

Jackson has flourished since earning the starting nod five games ago. The Burkburnett High product has delivered 13.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.0 block and 2.0 steals per game as a starter this season.

About the Wildcats

Abilene Christian also rides a four-game skid into Saturday's Lone Star Confernece South Division contest at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Wildcats (3-10, 0-1) has struggled mightily away from Moody Coliseum with their only win coming by an 87-71 count at Central Oklahoma on Dec. 13, 2010. Overall, ACU is 1-6 in games played outside of Abilene.

Freshman guard Mack Lankford has paced the Wildcats in scoring six times this season and in the three of ACU's last four games including a 35-point explosition on Dec. 20, 2010 against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Lankford leads ACU scoring 16.8 points a game while pulling in 4.5 rebounds a contest, while sophomore center Kelsey Smith (12.3 points, 7.9 rebounds) and senior guard Autumn Whitaker (12.0 pionts, 4.5 rebounds) join her in double figures.

Freshman forward Renata Marquez (9.3 points, 5.0 rebounds) and sophomore guard Cecilee Perez (7.8 points, 3.2 rebounds)round out Wildcats averaging at least 20 minutes of court time a game.

ACU scores 70.2 points per game and allows 74.5.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Abilene Christian meet for the 53rd time on the hardwood Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Wildcats own a 34-18 edge in the series that dates back to the 1977-78.

The home team has won 21 of the last 22 contests between the teams going back to the 1997-98 season with the lone exception coming when ACU claimed a 73-57 victory in Wichita Falls on Feb. 23, 2007.

The teams split the season series last year with MSU rolling to a 64-61 vcitory on Feb. 20, 2010 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
