Midwestern State improved to 3-0 for the fifth straight season after defeating Southwestern Oklahoma 46-9 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
The win combined with Tarleton State's 17-14 loss at Northwestern State (La.) allowed Midwestern State the most successful team in the Lone Star Conference since 2000 in terms of winning percentage. The Mustangs are now 78-34 (.696) since the start of the 2000 season, while the Texans moved to 80-36 (.690).
The Mustangs improved to 44-11 at Memorial Stadium since 2000 for a .800 winning percentage.
The victory was the ninth straight for MSU over Southwestern Oklahoma and improved the Mustangs to 26-1 against Oklahoma competition since the Bill Maskill era began in 2002.
Midwestern has won 20 consecutive home games against institutions hailing from the State of Oklahoma.
Senior safety Ryan Craven had five tackles to become the 12th MSU player to amass 200 career tackles and now has 203 stops.
Senior running back Marcus Mathis recorded his sixth career 100-yard rushing game with 129 yards on the ground and accounted for two touchdowns - an 8-yard run and a 24-yard reception.
Mathis moved passed Ross Harrison into fifth place on the career all-purpose yards list and now has 2,678 all-purpose yards.
Senior quarterback Zack Eskridge became the school's all-time completions leader surpassing former Harlon Hill candidate Phillip Boggs (432 completions from 1999-03). Eskridge now has 441.
Eskridge completed 8-of-9 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns allowing MSU to score 28 points to pull away for the victory.
Junior wide receiver David Little moved into 10th on the school's all-time reception list after making five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown against Southwestern Oklahoma. The Monroe, La. native needs 65 yards to become the 10th receiving in program history to amass 1,000 career receiving yards.
Midwestern State Military Appreciation attendance of 8,567 was the seventh largest MSU crowd at Memorial Stadium.
The Mustangs improved to 15-8 in home openers since bring back football in 1988. MSU has now won its last six.
