    For the record
Midwestern State can avenge its only loss to an Oklahoma institution during the Bill Maskill era Saturday afternoon at Wantland Stadium.

The Mustangs suffered a 38-33 setback in its last trip to Edmond on Oct. 25, 2008 to snap a 25-game winning streak over teams from Oklahoma, but have rebounded to win the last four and are now 26-1 against the Sooner State since the beginning of the Maskill era in 2002.

Midwestern State can also improve to 4-0 for the fifth-straight season with a win Saturday night in Edmond.

A win would also be the first for the Mustangs at Wantland Stadium as the Bronchos have claimed the other two meetings at the venue in 2000 (24-21) and 2008 (38-33).

    Who's hot
Midwestern State senior running back Marcus Mathis posted his sixth career and second 100-yard rushing performance of the season with 129 yards in last week's 46-9 win over Southwestern Oklahoma.

The Rockwall product is the Lone Star Conference's active leading rusher at 118 yards per game after the dismissal of Fred Winborn (131.3 yards per game) from the Texas A&M-Kingsville roster earlier this week.

Senior quarterback Zack Eskridge experienced his best stretch of the 2010 campaign by completing 8-of-9 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns during the Mustangs' 28-0 third quarter run last weekend against Southwestern Oklahoma.

Eskridge passed for a season-high 271 yards on 21-of-30 passing against the Bulldogs.

Sophomore linebacker Chase Hooper earned LSC South Defensive Player of the Week after making six tackles including a sack of SWOSU's Mike Van Deripe for a safety while senior kicker Jose Martinez was the special teams player of the week.

Martinez, who needs 22 points to become MSU's all-time leading scorer, connected on three field goals and was a perfect 5-for-5 on PATs.

    About the series
Midwestern State and Central Oklahoma meet for the eighth time on the gridiron Saturday night at Wantland Stadium.

The winner will take the overall lead in the series which is knotted at 3-3-1 as the teams have met just three times in 12 possible years of crossover play since the Mustangs joined the Lone Star Conference in 1997.

The teams split in the two seasons they each spent as North Division foes (2000 and 2001) with UCO taking a 24-21 win at Wantland Stadium in 2000 while the Mustangs pulled away for a 47-38 win in Wichita Falls in 2001.

Midwestern State is winless in its two trips to Wantland Stadium taking losses in 2000 and 2008.
