Klutts leads charge as Mustangs finish second at NSU Golf Classic

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Taylor Klutts typified the Midwestern State sprit Tuesday afternoon to lead the Mustangs to a second-place finish at the 12th Annual NSU Golf Classic played at the Par-72, 5,806-yard Cherry Springs Golf Club. "This course really stresses accuracy off of the tee box and Taylor really excelled and had a great tournament," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. The sophomore from Lake Kiowa fought through soggy conditions to post a final-round 78 (+6) to finish one stroke behind individual medalist Whitney McAteer with a 36-hole total of 151 (+7). "The conditions were a little tougher, but the girls did a good job of adjusting today," Ray said. Sophomore Kendra Whittley posted an 81 (+9) for a two-round total of 156 (+12) to finish sixth, while senior Kyla Whittley fired a second-round 82 to finish tied for 16th with teammate Megan Richardson, who carded a final round 80, as both slated a final score of 161 (+17). Sophomore Lindsay Burkhart closed with an 86 (+14) for a two-round total of 168 (+24) to finish tied for 36th. The Mustangs finished 13 strokes back of tournament champion Northeastern State as hosts carded rounds of 303 and 313 for a total of 616 (+40). Midwestern State competes in the Cheddar's UCO Classic on Oct. 4-5 at the Lincoln Park East Golf Course in Edmond, Okla.
