For the Record
Midwestern State can move to 2-0 for the fifth-straight year with a win over Eastern New Mexico Saturday night at Greyhound Stadium in Blackwater Draw.

The Mustangs, who extended their winning streak in season openers to 10 with last week's victory at New Mexico Highlands, have won the first four games in each of the last four seasons after accomplishing the feat just one other time in program history when MU rolled to a 6-0 start on the way to a mythical small college national championship in 1949.

MSU has been golden in the months of August and September all through the Bill Maskill era which began in 2002.

The Mustangs are now 31-7 (.816) in games played before Oct. 1 during the Maskill era.
Who's Hot
Midwestern State senior quarterback Zack Eskridge didn't pass for 200 yards for the first time since 2008 as he finished with 152 yards on 10-of-15 passing. The performance ended a school-record string of 12 games.

Not that there's much to be down about, however.

The Harlon Hill candidate, who led NCAA Division II in pass efficiency rating last season, is off to another great start as he passed for two touchdowns on his way to a 195.79 rating which rates first in the Lone Star Conference and sixth nationally.

Oh yeah, he also accounted for four touchdowns as he also rushed for 67 yards and a score on each of his two carries.

Speaking of rushing yards, senior running back Marcus Mathis tops the Lone Star Conference and is 11th in NCAA Division II after gashing New Mexico Highlands for 131 yards on just eight carries.

He burst 70 yards for a score on his first touch of the season.

The duo has the Midwestern offense ranked third in overall offense in NCAA Division II, second in rushing offense, 60th in passing offense and sixth in scoring offense.
About the Series
Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico meet for the 16th time on the gridiron Saturday night at Greyhound Stadium.

The Mustangs own an 11-4 edge in the series and have won the last eight meetings in the series dating back to the start of the Bill Maskill era in 2002.

Midwestern is 5-1 all time in games played at Blackwater Draw with the Hounds' only home victory coming in a 21-18 decision on Nov. 14, 1998. The Mustangs have won each of the five meetings since.

ENMU's last victory of the series came in a 36-33 thriller on Sep. 15, 2001 in Wichita Falls. The Greyhounds have never beaten a Bill Maskill-coached squad.

MSU has scored 50-or-more points in four of the last five meetings including a 50-17 victory on Oct. 31, 2009 last season in Blackwater Draw.
