Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY - One team has managed to upend Midwestern State down the stretch this season.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs ran into the same Cameron squad in the Lone Star Conference Championships Friday afternoon at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
The Aggies squeaked out a pair of close doubles' wins and claimed three straight-set singles victories to earn a berth in the conference finals by beating MSU 5-3.
Cameron will square off with Abilene Christian, a 5-1 winner of East Central in the other semifinal, Saturday morning for the second-straight year.
The Mustangs were close to turning the match from the beginning, but Vjekoslav Stipanic and Bo Zaputovic took a narrow 9-7 defeat to Cameron's Diego Troiano and Carlos Viscarra at No. 1 while CU's Thomas Peixoto and Manuel Barroetavena edged Chad Meeks and Octavian Dinuta 8-6 at No. 2.
Daniel McMullan and Luke Joyce pulled the Mustangs within 2-1 after claiming an 8-3 win over Jorge Gerosi and Jeff Sasser 8-3 at No. 3.
Zaputovic took a straight-set win over Viscarra (6-4, 6-0) at No. 2 and McMullan survived Peixoto 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3, but that's all the success MSU managed in singles as Cameron claimed straight-set victories at the Nos. 1, 5 and 6 positions to clinch the win.
The Mustangs, who fell to 15-8 on the season, had won six-straight matches and eight of the last nine before falling to Cameron 6-3 on April 5 at home.
Cameron improved to 17-8.
