Lauren Craig crushed a three-run home run in the first inning and LSC North Pitcher of the Year
Katie Petersen made it stand as No. 3 Midwestern State eliminated No. 11 West Texas A&M 3-0 Friday afternoon in the Lone Star Conference Championships at the Durant Multi-Sport Complex.
Petersen claimed her 90th career win with her 30th career shutout to improve to 24-3 on the season. The Plano West product allowed just a leadoff single to Amber Farr while recording 13 strikeouts and walking one.
Midwestern struck in the top of the first inning as
Natalie Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk and
Elena Bennett reached on an infield single before Craig launched a 3-2, one-out offering from West Texas A&M starter Marci Womack for the only runs of the game.
Womack fell to 17-9 after alloing three runs on four this while striking out five and walking three.
Midwestern State battles Central Oklahoma, a 4-1 winner over Southeastern Oklahoma, in another elimination game at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of that game will face the winner's bracket final loser between Angelo State and East Central for the right to move to Saturday afternoon's championship round.
That game begins at 5:30 p.m.
West Texas A&M dropped to 43-16.
