Game 2: #5 MSU uses Tanner, long ball to quiet Storm 6-1

DURANT, Okla. - Brittney Tanner was at it again in the second game of Tuesday afternoon's Lone Star Conference North Division doubleheader at SOSU Field.

The junior from Burkburnett improved to 15-2 in the circle while handcuffing Southeastern Oklahoma State to complete a sweep with a 6-1 win in Game 2.

Tanner held the Savage Storm to one run - a solo home run to Ryan Allen in the fourth inning - on three hits, but was dominant with her command recording seven strikouts to just one walk.

Tanner also contributed at the plate by blasting a two-run laser over the left-field fence for her second home run of the season to give MSU a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth before Ryan narrowed the margin to 2-1.

The Mustangs continued to play long ball in the fifth as junior third baseman McKenzie Sickler tagged her eight homer of the inning on a solo blast, while Natalie Rodriguez ripped her seventh homer of the campaign with a two-run blast to right field to give the Mustangs a commanding 5-1 lead through five innings.

Senior Lauren Craig's RBI-single upt he middle in the seventh inning plated the Mustangs final run of the contest.

Craig and Tanner joined NIcki Duff with two hits each to pace MSU's 10-hit attack.

Midwestern (42-6, 16-2), which extended their current win streak to 10 games, play host to Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday at Mustangs Park. First pitch for the twin bill is set for noon.

The Savage Storm fell to 20-22 on the season and to 5-7 in divisional play.
