WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The Midwestern State Mustangs rode the 22-point performance of junior Savannah Carver and played strong defense down the stretch to collect their second win of the season with an 80-76 win over East Central (Okla.) in Lone Star Conference crossover play at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs (2-3) overcame a 15-point first half deficit with runs in the last two-and-a half minutes of the first half and the first two-and-a half minutes of the second half to pull within a point at 37-36, then battled the Lady Tigers (3-3) down to the wire.

Junior Cierra Thompson added 14 points as four Mustangs scored in double digits. Nolisha Markham came off the bench with 12 points, with Karissa Lang adding 10. Jazman Patterson led the Mustangs with 11 rebounds.

East Central got 28 points from Laura Harris in the loss, while Indirha Ramirez added 15 points with seven rebounds.

ECU held a 59-53 lead with 6:22 to play after a layup by Ramirez when the Mustangs answered with an 11-3 run in the next two minutes to take the lead.

MSU built a six-point, 73-67 lead with a minute to play, then had to withstand a barrage of threes from the Tigers, while hitting 5-of-8 free throws in the last 30 seconds to pull out the win.

After shooting just 27 percent in the first half from the floor, the Mustangs answered the bell in the second half hitting 60 percent from the field to finish 23-of-54 and a respectable 42.6 percent.

The Mustangs forced ECU into 24 turnovers in the contest, scoring 26 points in the process, while suffering only 14 that led to just 10 points for the Lady Tigers.
