Game Day: Mustangs host East Central

Setting the Stage

Midwestern State plays its final game before final examinations when the Mustangs host East Central (Okla.) Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
 
The Mustangs (1-3) are coming off a tough 80-71 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State that opened Lone Star Conference crossover play Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
East Central (3-2) won back-to-back games at home, defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 66-62 last Saturday and Southwestern Christian 78-52 on Tuesday.

About the Mustangs

The Mustangs got a 23 point, eight rebound performance from junior forward Cierra Thompson against Southeastern Oklahoma on Tuesday that launched her to the top of the scoring charts.

Thompson is averaging 16.0 points a game, while hitting 42.6 percent from the floor (23-of-54).

Freshman guard Kirsti Degelia has gotten her collegiate career off to a flying start as the Krum product adds 14.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals a game.
 
Degelia is shooting a team-high 48.9 percent from the floor.
 
Junior forward Savannah Carver joins the duo in double figures at 12.8 points a game. The Amarillo native went for a season-high 20 points against Southeastern Oklahoma.

Junior post Jazman Patterson collected her first double-double of the season against Southeastern with 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.

About the Lady Tigers

Senior Casi Rawls leads the Lady Tigers as the only player scoring double figures.  Rawls averages 16.0 points a game to go with her 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 4.2 steals a game.

Redshirt freshman Ashley Robison adds 9.6 points a contest, while leading East Central with 7.6 rebounds a game.

Senior Indhira Ramirez adds 8.6 points and 4.6 boards, but is leading the team with 1.4 blocks a game (seven blocked shots).
 
East Central scores 67.2 points a game and allows 62.6.

About the Series

Midwestern State meets East Central for the 23rd time on the hardwood Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Mustangs own a 13-9 edge in the series and has won three of the last four meetings between the programs.  But it was East Central that snapped a three-game win streak last season by beating MSU 71-58 in Ada, Okla.
 
The Mustangs defeated ECU 68-66 in the Lady Tigers' last trip to Wichita Falls during the 2008-09 season.
 
MSU owns a 9-3 edge against East Central at D.L. Ligon Coliseum, winning the last eight meetings.  ECU's last win at Ligon was on Nov. 23, 1999 when the Lady Tigers claimed a 58-56 victory.
