Game Day: Mustangs want to continue home success Monday against Texas A&M-Commerce

Setting the Stage

Midwestern State hopes to continue its strong play at home Monday night in a Lone Star Conference crossover contest against Texas A&M-Commerce.
 
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

About the Mustangs

MSU LOVES ITS DOME Midwestern has won its last two games under the dome and is 3-1 in the friendly confines of D.L. Ligon Coliseum winning games by an average margin of 18.8 points per game.
 
THOMPSON STELLAR AT HOME   Junior forward Cierra Thompson is averaging 18.5 points a game in MSU's four games at Ligon Coliseum this season. She has scored at least 14 points in each of those which includes a season-high 23-point outing against Southeastern Oklahoma and a 21-point showing versus Hillsdale Freewill Baptist. Thompson is shooting 50 percent and pulling in 5.5 rebounds on the Mustangs' home floor. Conversely, she has struggled to 26.3 percent shooting from the field in road games while averaging 6.3 points and 1.7 rebounds.
 
NOLISHA ON THE MARK IN FIRST START OF 2010   Senior forward Nolisha Markham poured in 12 of her team-high 16 points in the second half to help Midwestern to a 67-62 win over Texas Woman's University Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The point total was a season high for the Tulsa native as was her nine-rebound effort. Markham pulled her season averages 9.9 points and 6.0 rebounds a game.
 
SAVANNAH CARVES UP THE OPPOSITION   Junior forward Savannah Carver continues to lead the Mustangs in scoring averaging 14 points per game. The Amarillo native had her consecutive games with at least 10 points streak snapped at five contests Saturday against Texas Woman's University. Carver tallied 18.4 points per game during the five-game stretch which spanned from scoring 16 points against Hillsdale Freewill Baptist on Nov. 22 to notching 11 points at Cameron on Dec. 13, 2010. The streak including three 20-point efforts included a career-best 23 points at Southwestern Oklahoma on Dec. 11.
 
DEGELIA'S HOT START Freshman guard Kirsti Degelia became the first MSU freshman since All American Lindy Lombard to open her collegiate career with four consecutive 10-point performances. The Krum High product was named the St. Edward's Shootout all-tournament team after scoring 16 points against the home standing Hilltoppers and 12 points against Hillsdale (Mich.). She followed with 20 points versus Hillsdale Freewill Baptist before tallying 11 points against Southeastern Oklahoma. Degelia leads the Lone Star Conference with 3.3 steals per game.
 
PATTERSON CLEANS GLASS  Junior forward Jazman Patterson ranks sixth in the Lone Star Conference with 8.6 rebounds per game and owns the Mustangs' only double-double of the season with 13 points and 16 rebounds against Southeastern Oklahoma on Nov. 13, 2010. The 16 rebounds stand as a career high and were the most since Regiane Araujo pulled down 17 against Southeastern Oklahoma on Jan. 3, 2009.

About the Lions

Texas A&M-Commerce scratched the win column with a 64-63 victory over Eastern New Mexico last Monday at A&M-Commerce Field House.
 
The Lions are 0-6 off of their home floor this season, but played West Texas A&M within 10 points before defeating the Zias last week.
 
Senior guard Mattilyn McIntyre leads the Texas A&M-Commerce attack with 19.5 points per game and is joined in double figures by freshman guard Danielle Dixon (11.9 points, 3.0 rebounds) and freshman forward Bianca Stevenson (10.0 points, 6.6 rebounds).
 
The Lions feature nine underclassmen (two sophomore, seven freshmen) on their 13-player roster.

About the Series

Midwestern State meets Texas A&M-Commerce for the 51st time on the hardwood Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Mustangs own a 33-17 edge in the series which dates back to the 1976-77 season.
 
MSU snapped a four-game skid to the Lions by claiming a 78-64 victory last season on Jan. 7, 2010 at A&M-Commerce Field House.
