WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Cierra Thompson poured in 21 points and pulled in 13 rebounds to lead Midwestern State to an 82-45 exhibition win over Paul Quinn College Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The junior forward from Llano led a solid defensive effort with four steals as MSU forced the Tigers into 36 turnovers and used a 35-11 advantage in points off of the miscues to break open the game.
The Mustangs scored the first 12 points of the contest and led by as many as 15 points in the first half as
Savannah Carver poured in nine of her 17 points in the opening half. Shew ould also add five assists and two steals in 20 minutes of play.
Freshman
Kirsti Degelia came on in the second half to hit three 3-pointers to finish a solid all-around effort of 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Senior
Katiya Jackson returned for her first action since suffering a knee injury in 2008-09 to tally nine points in 17 minutes off of the bench, while junior forward
Jazman Patterson chipped six points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals in 24 minutes of play.
Senior forward
Nolisha Markham had six points nine rebounds, while
Karissa Lang added six points and three assists.
The Mustangs led by as many as 38 when Patterson hit a layup with 5:24 to go to push the MSU advantage to 75-37.
Midwestern State opens the regular season at the St Edward's Shootout Friday and Saturday in Austin. The Mustangs open with the host HIlltoppers Friday at 2:30 p.m. before battling Hillsdale (Mich.) Saturday at noon.
