Mustangs, Wildcats to tangle in LSC Championship final

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 19 Midwestern State squares off with Abilene Christian in the Lone Star Conference Championship finals Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.
 
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
 
The Mustangs advanced to their first league title since 2005 with a 1-0 win over Central Oklahoma in overtime on Friday night as Kelsey Hill tapped in her 10th goal of the season in the 99th minute.
 
Abilene Christian got goals from Krysta Grimm and Anastasia Nelson to score a 2-0 win over Angelo State in Friday's other semifinal.
 
Midwestern State (16-2) is paced by junior forward Lindsay Pritchard and Kelsey Hill with 10 goals and five assists each as the Mustangs average 2.22 points per match.
 
The Mustangs are led defensively by 2010 LSC Goalkeeper of the Year Mallory Whitworth and Defender of the Year Hanna Staley.
 
MSU has allowed a stingy 0.55 goals against average and permitted just one goal over their last seven contests including six shutouts.
 
The Mustangs have won their last three contests and 13 of their last 14. MSU is a perfect 8-0 on its home pitch this season.
 
Abilene Christian's dynamic offense is led by LSC Offensive Player and Freshman of the Andrea Carpenter who led the league with 18 goals.
 
Fellow first-team junior forward Ashley Holton adds 13 goals and two assists, while sophomore All-LSC first-team performer Julie Coppedge, a creative center mid, has assisted on nine goals this season.
 
Sophomore All-LSC first-teamer Lexi Stirling and honorable mention keeper Elliott London lead a defense that has allowed 0.83 goals per game while posting eight shutouts.
 
Abilene Christian (15-3) has won 10 of its last 11 games.
