DUNCAN, Okla. - Midwestern State rode the stellar finals rounds from Kendra Whittley, Taylor Klutts and Lindsay Burkhart to a sixth place showing Tuesday afternoon at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate played at the Par-72, 5,957-yard course of The Territory Golf Resort.
 
The Mustangs carded a team total of 308 (+20) in the final round of the tournament to improve 12 strokes over Monday's opening round tally of 320 (+32) for two-round total of 628 (+52).
 
"It was a beautiful day and we expected the scores to be lower," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "It was a really solid round we just keep getting better and better. Our goal is get into the mix for a regional tournament berth. I think we're getting close."
 
Tarleton State, ranked No. 3 in the Women's NCAA II Golf Stat rankings, fired rounds of 304 and 288 for a two-round total of 592 (+16) to finish 16 strokes ahead of Northeastern State (608/+32).
 
But the finished within eight shots of No. 6 Central Oklahoma (620/+44) and No. 8 Nebraska-Omaha (622/+46) which finished third and fourth respectively ahead of Redlands Community College (625/+49).
 
"This was a great regional field," Ray said. "We have a ways to go to get where we want to be, but we're getting better."
 
Whittley, a sophomore from Wall, carded her second 75 (+3) of the tournament to finish sixth on the individual leader board and was six strokes back of top medalist Kelsay Kirkpatrick of Northeastern State. Kirkpatrick carded rounds of 74 and 70 for a total of 144 (E).
 
Klutts also recorded a second-round 75 as the sophomore from Lake Kiowa finished tied for 11th with a total of 153 (+9), while Burkhart carded a 77 in the final round to tie for 38th with a total of 160 (+16).
 
Senior Kyla Whittley contributed a countable score of 81 in the final round to finish with a 168 (+24) to close tied for 61st while sophomore Lauren Romines notched rounds of 84 and 85 for a 169 (+25) to tie for 64th.
 
Sophomore Megan Richardson recorded rounds of 95 and 90 for a total of 185 (+41) competing as an individual medalist.
