WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 19 Midwestern State make quick work with a few adjustments but quickly put away a feisty Southwestern Oklahoma State squad 3-0 in Lone Star Conference action Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field.
"They played very well and played with a lot of intensity and caused us some problems," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said. "We had to play in a different way but I was pound of the way we adjusted."
Junior forward
Kelsey Hill put the Mustangs out front early when she took a through ball from senior midfielder
Brittany Subia in the third minute of the contest.
Subia then delivered her team-best fifth assist of the season when
Lindsay Pritchard hammered home her seventh tally of the season from the near post to give the Mustangs a commanding 2-0 lead in the 16th minute.
Southwestern Oklahoma continued to bring the pressure, but Jessica Carbonara's shot from 25 yards out clanged off of the crossbar in the sixth minute as the Bulldogs were limited to eight shots with just one falling on goal.
"Our back really played well," Trimble said. "Barn (
Megan Barnhart and
Hanna Staley played smart defense."
The Mustangs are off to the best start in school history at 11-1 and have won eight consecutive matches for the first time since Trimble's first season at the helm in 1998.
Midwestern can notch its first unbeaten and untied season at home with a win Sunday night against Central Oklahoma. Senior Night festivities begin at 6 p.m.
