KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Rockhurst's inside-outside combination of Emily Levy and Maggie McGovern combined for 18 kills and the Hawks limited the Midwestern State to a season-low .053 hitting percentage to take a 25-12, 25-20, 25-16 decision Saturday afternoon in the finale of the Rockhurst Classic at Mason Halpin Fieldhouse.
Levy, a 5-11 junior middle hitter, put down nine kills and committed one error in 14 attack attempts for a .571 attack percentage, while McGovern, a 6-3 right-side hitter, added nine more kills.
The Hawks (5-7) held the Mustangs to a -.050 attack percentage in the opening set before the Mustangs fought back in the second set.
Sophomore outside hitter
Miranda Byrd led the Mustangs' attack with seven kills, while
Hillary White added five more.
Junior middle blocker
Lauren Bayer led the Mustangs' defensive effort at the net with four total blocks, while
Tiana Bond added three more. MSU finished with seven total team blocks.
Sophomore libero
Kiara Jordan had nine digs to lead back row efforts, while Byrd and
Dimery Michaels had seven digs each.
Midwestern State (2-11) plays host to Dallas Baptist Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
