LAWTON, Okla. - The Cameron Aggies crushed two home runs and needed just five innings to take advantage of seven walks to waltz to a 9-1 win over Midwestern State in Game 2 Wednesday afternoon at Cameron Field.
The Mustangs, who fell to 23-11 on the season and 9-5 in the LSC North, and Aggies (24-16, 9-5) close the four-game set with a pair of games Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitch for the twin bill is set for 2 p.m.
Megan Young set the tone for the contest by launching MSU starter
Brittney Tanner's first offering over the center field fence as the Aggies went on to build a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Tanner, who took the loss to fall to 10-5 on the season, allowed nine runs - six earned - on eight hits with seven walks and two strikeouts in a matchup against her former prep teammate, Carrie Harvey. The two provided a potent one-two punch in the circle at Burkburnett High School two seasons ago.
MSU center fielder
Maranda Bishop provided the Mustangs' lone offense against the freshman hurler with a solo home run to begin the third inning.
Harvey (14-5) allowed six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in five innings to earn the victory.
Shareena Pulse's two-run double in the third inning pushed the Aggies' advantage to 4-1. She also ignited a five-run fifth when she led off the frame with her seventh home run of the season.
Bishop and
Jessica Rodriguez paced the Midwestern attack by going 2-for-3 at the plate, while freshman third sacker
Mallory Mooney extended the team's longest active hitting streak to 10 games with a single to left field in the third inning.
