WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 16 Abilene Christian just kept on rolling Sunday afternoon at Mustangs Park as the Wildcats battered Midwestern State 7-1 for extend their winning streak to a school-record 14-straight games.
The Wildcats, who improved to 30-9 on the season, haven't lost since MSU took both ends of a twin bill on March 7 in Wichita Falls.
Fourteen also proved to be the number of the day for Midwestern senior
Maranda Bishop, whose hitting streak reached 14 games when she led of the third with a double down the left-field line for one the Mustangs few highlights against ACU.
The Wildcats got two-run hits in each of the second, third and fourth innings as Brooke Whittlesey laced a two-run double in the second followed by a pair of two-run homers by Nancy Sawyers and Jackie Gentile in successive innings.
The Wildcats tacked on another run in the fifth, but that was more than enough for Kim Partin, who scattered eight hits in a complete game win to improve to 7-1. Partin didn't have a strikeout until she got Kelli Ward swinging to end the game.
The Mustangs, who fell to 22-10, averted their first shutout of the season when freshman
Sarah Weary led off the sixth inning with a her third triple of the season down the right-field line. She would score on
Tabitha Yannetti run-scoring groundout to second, but it was not enough to overcome the red-hot Wildcats.
Weary extended her season-best hitting streak to six games while going 2-for-3. It was her third-straight game with two hits.
Alyson Reynolds also had a pair of hits for MSU as she came about 3 feet shy of her sixth homer in the second inning, but had to settle for a double off of the left-field fence.
Brittney Tanner (10-4) was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs - all earned - on nine hits in four innings. She had three strikeouts and a walk.
Katie Petersen came on to pitch the final three inning while allowing an unearned run on two hits with a strikeout and a walk.
The Mustangs return to Lone Star Conference North Division play Wednesday afternoon when MSU travels to Lawton for a showdown with Cameron. First pitch for the twin bill is set for 2 p.m.
