KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Midwestern State senior
Faye D'Hamecourt survived Veronica Castilla 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 in No. 4 singles Thursday afternoon at Loyola Park Tennis Center.
That was the difference for the No. 34 Mustangs who edged No. 39 Northwest Missouri State 5-4 for their third-straight win to improve to 7-5 on the season.
Midwestern rolled out to a 2-1 doubles' edge after
Kaja Banas/D'Hamecourt beat Jordan Lipira/Erika Leston 8-6 at No. 2 and
Collean Kinser/
Alex Odell-Michels defeated Lina Gomez/Allison Wullf 8-5 at No. 3.
The Mustangs held their own in singles to hold on for the win as Odell-Michels routed Gomez 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 and Kinser rolled Brittney Browning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 to join D'Hamecourt as MSU's singles winners.
Northwest Missouri State suffered its first loss of the season to fall to 4-1.
Midwestern enjoys a week off before facing Cameron next Thursday in Lawton.
