Mustangs complete sweep of East Central, 5-3

ADA, Okla. - Kaelee Kramer and Kelli Ward combined for seven quality innings to keep East Central at bay before Midwestern State erupted for a three-run seventh inning to take Game 2 5-3 Monday afternoon at Lady Tigers Field.

Kramer allowed two runs - one earned - on six hits in five innings before giving way to Ward, who yielded a run on one hit to pick up her first collegiate win. Kramer pitched the first four innings then re-entered to pitch a scoreless to seventh for her first collegiate save.

Freshman third baseman Mallory Mooney keyed a two-run third inning by lacing an RBI-double to the left-field gap to plate Nicki Duff to give MSU a 2-0 lead aftter Sarah Weary came around to score on a passed ball.

The Lady Tigers fought back to score two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead into the final inning.

But Duff stroked a one-out triple into right-center then came around to score on Tabitha Yannetti's double to center field to tie the game at 3-3.

After Jessica Rodriguez drew a walk, the Mustangs took advantage of another East Central passed ball which allowed Yannetti to advance to third and Rodriguez to second.

Mooney followed with an RBI groundout to third base to give MSU the lead before Lauren Craig sent a single through the right side to plate Rodriguez to put the Mustangs up 5-3.

East Central got a leadoff double from Nicole Sanchez in the bottom of the seventh, but Kramer worked her way out of the jam to preserve the win for the Mustangs.

Mooney paced the Mustangs at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in two runs, while Craig and Sarah Weary also contributed two hits each.

Midwestern State plays host to East Central Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
