WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State went ice cold from the field as Texas A&M-Kingsville rolled to a 71-50 win in the season finale for both teams Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs close the season at 8-18 overall and 3-9 against the LSC South, while Texas A&M-Kingsville ends the season at 16-11 and 6-6.
The Javelinas needed to win and have Angelo State defeat Tarleton State to advance to the LSC Championships next week in Bartlesville. That didn't happen as the Tex-Anns clinched the No. 4 seed with a 73-52 win in Stephenville.
The Mustangs managed to shoot just 38.3 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from the 3-point line. MSU also strugged at the charity stripe where it was 8-for-22 for a paltry 36.4 percent.
Midwestern took a brief lead at 11-10 on a
Sunny Satery 3-pointer with 13:45 to go in the first half, but the Javelinas outscored the Mustangs 16-5 over the next nine minutes to take control of the contest.
Senior
Rosy Ofoegbu paced the Mustangs with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals while fellow senior
Regiane Araujo finished with five points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Satery and
Michele Kenney each canned a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points apiece.
LaKeisha Jones and Ursula Hill dropped in 14 points each to lead Texas A&M-Kingsville.
