Midwestern State survives pesky Greyhounds in OT, 94-90

PORTALES, N.M. - Midwestern State had to work overtime to survive a pesky effort from Eastern New Mexico 94-90 Saturday night at Greyhound Arena.

The Mustangs outscored ENMU 9-4 over the final 1:31 of overtime to improve to 18-6 on the season and claimed sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference South Division at 7-2.

The Mustangs will enjoy a week off before facing Abilene Christian next Saturday at the McMurry Gym. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

MSU senior Nolan Richardson, who scored a game-high 26 points, who followed a cutting layup by converting a steal into another layup to give the Mustangs an 89-85 lead with 1:42 to go.

The Greyhounds, who dropped their 11th-straight game to fall to 4-20 overall and 0-9 in division play, rallied with a three-point play by Brandon Wilson and clawed their way back to 92-90 after Wilson hit a 15-footer on the baseline with 41 seconds to go.

But Richardson canned a pair of free throws to put the game away 94-90 with 7.8 seconds to play.

Eastern New Mexico overcame a three-point deficit with 1:30 to go in regulation to force overtime as the Greyhounds forced three-straight tunovers.
