WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Three-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year Emily Brister scored nine points before suffering a knee injury midway through the first half Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
But the Lady Buffs just kept rolling as Courtney Lee poured in a game-high 20 points to lead West Texas A&M to a 70-35 Lone Star Conference South Division win.
The opportunistic Lady Buffs turned 30 MSU turnovers into 39 points as they got out on the fast break to take 20-4 edge in transition points.
Midwestern State was held to a season low 36 points and were held to a 30.4 team field goal percentage.
West Texas A&M, which led by as many as 14 points in the opening half, jumped on the Mustangs for the first 10 points of the second half and incresed its lead to as many as 37 points as the Lady Buffs led 70-33 when Ashley Leven hit a baseline jumper with 2:05 to play.
Regiane Araujo paced MSU with 10 points and six rebounds, while
Rosy Ofoegbu pulled in a team-high eight rebounds.
Midwestern State (7-15, 2-6) travels to Portales to face Eastern New Mexico on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
West Texas A&M improved to 20-3 overall and remained perfect in the LSC South at 8-0.
