Stark, Bronchos hold off Midwestern, 78-69

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Central Oklahoma's Jordan Stark poured in 25 points and pulled in 11 rebounds to lead the Bronchos to a 78-69 win over Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference crossover play Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs trimmed a 15-point Central Oklahoma lead to 70-68 when Cierra Thompson hit a pair of free throws to cap a 12-3 run with 2:02 to play, but Alyssa Fuxa canned a 3-pointer on the Bronchos' next possession to key an 8-1 UCO counter run the rest of the way.

MSU rallied after the Bronchos used a 17-5 run early in the second to stretch their advantage to 65-50 after Stark canned the second of her back-to-back 3-pointers with 6:37 to play.

Junior forward Nolisha Markhan paced the Mustangs with 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore forward Cierra Thompson had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Stark was joined in double figures by Kasey Tweed (17 points) and Ashley Beckley (11 points, five reobunds, while senior point guard Cristina Yarbrough missed a double-double by a bucket to finish with eight points and 11 assists.

The Mustangs (2-4)  return to action on Dec. 12 when they face Southeastern Oklahoma State at Bloomer Sullivan Areana in Durant. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Central Oklahoma improved to 4-2 on the season.
