#6 West Texas A&M eliminates Mustangs, 3-0

CANYON, Texas - Midwestern State's stay at the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championships was a short one as No. 6 West Texas A&M rolled to a 25-9, 25-14, 25-16 first-round win Thursday night at the West Texas A&M Field house.

The Buffs (32-3) advance to face Texas A&M-Commerce in the semifinals Friday night, while the Mustangs close the season at 10-25.

West Texas A&M posted a .381 team hitting percentage and were led by Melissa Harper, Lauren Thedford and Laura Prinsen who all finished with 11 kills each and combined for just four errors in 63 attempts.

Midwestern struggled on the attack throughout the match as the Mustangs managed just five kills in each of the first two sets to hit a -.061 before breaking out for 13 kills in the final set. Overall, MSU put down 23 kills and committed 21 errors in 103 attacks to .019.

Sophomore outside hitter Miranda Byrd paced the Mustangs with seven kills and added six digs, while freshman right-side Shelbi Stewart had four kills.

Midwestern was solid at the net with six total team blocks and were led by junior middle blocker Lauren Bayer, who had four block assists, and Kari Damjanovic, who added three total blocks.

Sophomore libero Kiara Jordan led back row efforts with 12 digs to become MSU's all-time single-season digs leader with 599.
