Mustangs edge Southwestern Oklahoma, 1-0

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Lindsay Pritchard finished a cross from Katy Lukert in the 84th minute to lift Midwestern State to a 1-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon at Milam Stadium.

"It was scary," MSU coach Jeff Trimble said. "Southwestern played with 10 players behind the ball the whole time. They are committed to playing that style and made it frustrating and scary for us."

The Mustangs, who improved to 11-2-2 on the season and 5-2 in the Lone Star Conference, dominated the run of play and outshot the Bulldogs 25-7 including a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.

But SWOSU goalkeeper Katie Mahoney made nine saves and kept Midwestern at bay over the opening 84 minute of the game.

That's when Lukert took on a defender and found an opening down the right wing to the touch line.

"She did a good job of driving the ball past the goal," Trimble said. "Lindsay caught moving full speed and crushed the ball back to the net. It was a great goal."

It was Pritchard's team leading seventh goal of the season, while Lukert dished out her fourth assist of the season to pull the Mustangs to victory.

MSU also enjoyed a stellar performance from outside midfielder Brittany O'Neal.

"Brittany played really well today and was very dangerous," Trimble said.

Southwestern Oklahoma (6-10-1) had come into match having won three of their last four including results over regionally ranked Abilene Christian and over East Central, who had handed the Mustangs their first loss of the season earlier in the month.

"We're excited to get the goal and come out with the win," Trimble said. "They are very structured, don't give up many goals and are very good."

Midwestern State continues its road swing Sunday afternoon at Central Oklahoma at Thompson Field in Edmond. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
