For the record

Midwestern State (6-0-2) has used its best start in school history to claim its highest national ranking as the Mustangs bring a No. 10 NSCAA/adidas national ranking into tonight's LSC opener against Texas Woman's University.

The Mustangs are unbeaten in their last 15 regular season games dating back to a 2-1 loss to TWU last season on Oct. 12, 2008.

MSU has also won its last nine matches at the MSU Soccer Field.

Texas Woman's (2-6) comes in a four-game skid as the Pioneers have been shutout in each of those contests.

Who's hot

Midwestern State's goalkeeper duo of Mallory Whitworth and Ashley Meek have combined to help the Mustangs to tie a school-record four shutouts and haven't let in a goal in the last 467:49 of clock time.

Whitworth, who hasn't allowed a goal in 356:37, rates fifth in NCAA Division II with a 0.193 goals against average and is third in the nation with a .962 save percentage.

Meek hasn't permitted a goal in 220:49 and boasts a 0.31 goals against average and a .957 save percentage. The senior doesn't carry an individual national ranking because she has logged less than half of MSU's minutes between the posts.

Sophomore strikers Kelsey Hill and Lindsay Pritchard have each scored two goals in two of their last four outings, while junior midfielder Kendra Clemons tied a school record with three assists at Texas A&M International last Friday in Laredo.

About the series
