LAWTON, Okla. - Midwestern State knew the run was coming.
After dominating the first half, the Mustangs constructed a seemingly insurmountable 20-point lead just a minute into the second stanza.
That's when the Aggies reeled off 12-straight points before the Mustangs regrouped and sprung their secret weapon on their way to their seventh straight victory in an 85-56 runaway Thursday afternoon at Aggie Gym.
"We put in the 1-3-1 right before the UTPB game and the guys have really responded well to it," MSU coach
Jeff Ray said. "We have a lot of length and Charlie (Logan) really makes the difference at the top."
The Aggies (5-7) needed just four minutes to reel off a 12-0 run and pulled within 45-37 when Terrance Welch hit a layup on a backdoor cut with 13:47 to go.
That's when Ray called a timeout and went to the 1-3-1 half-court zone - and it paid immediate dividends.
Junior guard
Craig Green canned a 3-pointer from the left corner to end the run before Logan disrupted the Aggies' attack on three-straight possessions.
The sophomore forward from Wichita Falls High School got his hands on three-straight passes - though not credited with a steal in the game - that led to two-straight traditional three-point plays by Green and
Earl Rabb before he hit
Nolan Richardson in stride on another Aggies' turnover to cap an 12-0 MSU run to reestablish a 57-37 lead with 11:11 to play.
Green poured in a season-high for the second-straight game as he finished with 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field including a 6-of-7 effort from 3-point range.
"I've been working on my shot a lot more and I think it's paid off," said Green, who was coming off a 22-point performance against East Central (Okla.) on Saturday. "It takes a little pressure off of Nolan (Richardson)."
Richardson completed a strong all-around game with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists while extending his made free-throw streak to 32 by going 8-of-8 at the charity stripe.
Senior point guard
Earl Rabb also turned a stellar game with nine points, six rebounds, eight assists and five steals.
Cameron was paced by Kallan Glasgow, who finished with 15 points, six rebounds and six assists on 5-of-12 shooting.
Midwestern State (10-4) completes its Lone Star Conference crossover play Saturday night when the Mustangs battle Southwestern Oklahoma State at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse in Weatherford. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 6.
