WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Nolan Richardson's fourth 30-point performance of the season may have come three games too late to become the first player in school history to pour in at least 30 in four-straight games.
But that didn't bother Richardson who was bent on a record-setting evening Monday night as Midwestern rolled to its sixth-straight win in a 106-69 domination of East Central.
The senior guard set the school's single-game record with 10 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 32 points to break former standout Damion McKinney's mark set on Nov. 30, 1996 when he hit nine treys at Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Mustangs also obliterated the single-game team record for 3-pointers with 19 as five different players nailed treys as
Craig Green added four and
Trajinski Grigsby had three while
Marcus Anderson and Melvin each had a 3.
Midwestern had hit 15 3-pointers on three other occasions against Central Oklahoma on Jan. 13, 1996, against Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) on Feb. 29, 1996 and at West Texas A&M on Feb. 13, 2003.
The Mustangs systemically dismantled East Central, building a commanding 49-26 lead int he first half before pulling away for a game-best 37-point lead when Green canned a trey with 9:01 to go to give MSU an 84-47 lead.
Green finished with 22 points on 9-of-20 shooting with four rebounds and five assists, while Grigsby finished 15 points and six rebounds and sophomore forward
Charlie Logan notched his second-straight double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Senior point guard
Earl Rabb showed a great all-around game with five points, 11 assists and six rebounds.
The Mustangs, who improved to 9-4, battle Cameron Thursday afternoon in Lawton. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 1.
