ARVADA, Colo. – Kari Bristow converted a penalty kick in the first overtime to give Midwestern State a 2-1 win over Colorado School of Mines Friday afternoon at the Long Lake Ranch Park.
"We played really good soccer today," MSU coach Jeff Trimble said. "Mines played us really well. The girls played with good intensity and worked hard."
Brandy O'Neal provided the spark and difference for the Mustangs, who have now for their last two to improved to 4-3.
The sophomore forward from Rockwall scored her first goal of the season on an unassisted strike in the 35th minute when she took on a defender in the box and blasted the ball to the upper corner of the far post to beat Colorado Mines keeper Briana Schulze.
It was O'Neal who was active again in the overtime period.
She ran on to Megan Hanlon's through ball and was taken down in the box resulting in the decisive penalty kick opportunity.
Trimble also lauded the play of sophomore midfielder Kendra Clemons.
"She played outstanding today," he said. "Her work rate was one of the best out there today. Kendra was winning a lot of balls."
