ABILENE, Texas – Midwestern State led in each of the four matches remaining on the court Friday in the Lone Star Conference Championship quarterfinals at the Rose Park Tennis Center.
But Northeastern State made quick work of the Mustangs taking each of the three doubles' matches before running through to two-set wins at the top two singles' position to advance 5-0.
The No. 11 RiverHawks (19-2) battled Tarleton State, a 5-1 winner over Central Oklahoma Friday morning, at 3 p.m. in a semifinal contest at Rose Park.
Abilene Christian, which defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 6-0, and East Central, a 5-2 winner over Cameron, squared off in the other 4 p.m. semifinal at ACU's Eager Tennis Center.
The semifinal winners will advance to the conference title match Saturday morning at the Eager Tennis Center with an 11:15 a.m. first serve.
Northeastern State took control of the match with three convincing doubles' victories.
Zuzanna Osinska and Emina Spritovic upended
Ann Sophie Indeherberge and
Melissa dos Prazeres-Silva 8-2 at No.1, Celine Martinez and Alicia Augustinska claimed an 8-3 win over
Faye D'Hamecourt and
Cristina Oliveira at No 2, while Micheala Romanova and Karolina Cichon defeated
Collean Kinser and
Ashley Huse 8-4 at No. 3.
NSU the clinched the match with a pair of straight-set singles' wins.
Osinska defeated Indeherberge 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and Spirtovic dusted Oliveira 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2.
The Mustangs, which fell to 10-8 await the final South Central Region rankings next week as they effort to make an 11th-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II national tournament.
