ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 32 Midwestern State took a 2-1 lead after doubles Saturday afternoon at the Arlington Tennis Center then hung on for a 5-4 win over Dallas Baptist.
The Mustangs claimed wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles positions as
Cristina Oliveira and
Faye D'Hamecourt won 8-4 over Candis Minor and Brittany McCleary and
Ashley Huse and Collene Kinser rolled Brittney Banks and Lacy Eggleston by the same score.
But the Patriots answered with wins at the top three singles' spots.
It wasn't enough to overcome the Mustangs as D'Hamecourt upended McCleary 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4, Kinser rolled Christine Wehrli 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and
Desre Tarr blanked Sharia Gomez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
D'Hamecourt improved to 13-4 for the spring in singles, while Kinser upped her mark to 12-5.
The Mustangs (10-7) travel to Tyler Junior College next Wednesday before kicking off the Lone Star Conference championships on April 25 in Abilene.
Dallas Baptist dropped to 14-8.
