DURANT, Okla. – Midwestern State scored six runs in the second inning then cruised to a 7-2 win over Texas Woman's University in the Lone Star Conference Crossover Saturday night at the Multi-Sports Complex.
The Mustangs sent 10 batters to the plate in the decisive second inning and capitalized on four infield singles and a couple of walks to take a commanding 7-0 advantage after two innings.
The win was the second-straight for the Mustangs, who improved to 25-15 on the season and have now won their last two games at the LSC Crossover after falling in the first three. MSU also improved to 6-0 this season against Texas Woman's.
The Mustangs struck for a single run in the first inning after
Maranda Bishop led off with a double before coming around to score on
Lindsey Voigt's single to center field.
Texas Woman's plated two runs in the third inning on a two-run home run by Meagan Peiser.
But that would be all that MSU starter Brittany Tanner would allow.
The freshman from Burkburnett allowed two runs on six hits while striking out four and walking three to improve to 4-7 on the season.
Bishop paced a nine-hit Midwestern attack by going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI as six different Mustangs drove in runs.
The Mustangs close the Lone Star Conference Crossover with a pair of games on Sunday. MSU battles Texas A&M-Kingsville at 12:30 p.m. and Abilene Christian at 2.
Texas Woman's University fell to 12-29.
