PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico's Megan Kabrick poured in a season-high 22 points to lead the Zias to a 75-56 season-ending win over Midwestern State Saturday night at Greyhound Arena.
The Zias snapped a five-game skid and end the season with a 5-22 overall record and were 2-12 against the Lone Star Conference South Division.
"They had nothing to lose and didn't give up," MSU assistant coach Fala Suiaunoa said. "They just pounded it, so kudos to them."
The Zias scored the first eight points of the game and jumped out to a 16-2 lead 6:30 into the game.
The Mustangs countered with an 8-0 run late in the first half to shave the ENMU advantage to 31-27 on
Tiffany Cook jumper with 3:20 to go in the opening half.
But the Zias responded with a 9-3 run to push the lead back into double figures at 42-30 at half time. They would maintain a 10-point cushion for the remainder of the game.
Kabrick hit six 3-pointers and was 8-of-13 from the floor and added three steals in 31 minutes of play, while Til-Lois Fifer added 15 points and 10 rebounds and Patricia Malouff had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Zias.
Midwestern State was led by
Tiffany Cook's 17-point, nine-rebound effort, while
Kaylon Hodge notched her second career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Hodge, who came in shooting 47-percent from the charity stripe, hit seven of her nine free throws.
The Mustangs were without starting guard
Brandy Moore, who was tending to family matters.
MSU, which dropped its eighth straight, ends the season at 9-18 and 3-11.
