TAMPA, Fla. – Midwestern State's
Katie Petersen struck out 10 in a two-hit shutout as the Mustangs claimed a 3-0 win in Game 1 Thursday afternoon here over the University of Tampa.
Sophomore shortstop
Tabitha Yannetti delivered a run scoring single to left field in the fourth inning and freshman left fielder added a two-run single to left in the fifth as the Mustangs built a 3-0 advantage.
MSU legged out four hits in the sixth as the Mustangs pushed four runs across the plate to build a 7-0 lead.
Petersen, a sophomore from Plano, was superb in the circle as she improved to 4-2 on the season with her third shutout of the season to lead the Mustangs to their fourth-straight win.
Junior center fielder
Maranda Bishop extended her career-best hitting to eight games by going 2-for-4 with her second triple of the season. She also scored a run and stole a base.
Potysman and Yannetti also recorded two hits for MSU.
